John R. Gregg the Man

I was interested to come across the following excerpt from Rider University's history timeline.  I'm impressed that J.R. was more than just a business man looking for a buck.  He was apparently quite an influencial celebrity.

  • May 1901 ... The Rider Business College and the Stewart Business College merged in May 1901. The merger was the result of the urging of John Robert Gregg, author of Gregg Shorthand, and came after a period of direct, heated competition between the two institutions. The new school was named the Rider-Moore and Stewart School of Business. Franklin Benjamin Moore and John Edward Gill became president and vice president, respectively.
