When you encounter an unfamiliar word...

(Including those that should be familiar but aren't)

Do you usually work it all out in your head, then write the entire outline in one motion, or do you write each sound or syllable before you think of the next?

I'm used to the latter, since that's what we do in longhand. At speed, though, I do familiar outlines as one motion. I know the goal is to move all outlines to "familiar", but that will be a while.

Preparing the entire outline in my head first feels like hesitation. Writing each sound prevents me from doing it "as one motion", and may just spread the hesitation out.

Your thoughts?
